Enjoy the enchantment of one of the most famous cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, well-known Mostar, situated on the riverside of the Neretva…

“Of all the things created and built by humankind as a part of life’s effort, nothing in my mind is better or worthier than bridges. They are more important than houses, more sacred, and more universal than temples. They belong to all and treat all alike; they are useful, always built for a purpose, at a spot where most human needs entwine; they are more durable than other buildings and serve no secret or evil purpose.”

Ivo Andrić

Mostar is situated in a beautiful valley surrounded by steep mountains. It is the sunniest town in Bosnia and Herzegovina and one of the sunniest towns in the whole of Europe. Thanks to the Neretva River, Mostar has developed as a city. What makes this city recognizable is the Old Bridge, constructed by Mimar Hairudin, the famous architect, in 1565. The Old Bridge dates from the 16th century and represents the first historical monument in Bosnia under the protection of UNESCO.

The origin of the name of Mostar is precisely from this period and due to the Bridge, actually to bridge guardians (mostari). It is not strange that the bridge is the symbol of Mostar, the symbol of religious and ethnic reconciliation. The famous writer Ivo Andric, who won the Nobel prize, was enchanted with bridges, mostly because of Mostar.

To feel the taste of a small, sunny, magical town, to experience diversity and reconciliation of different nations and religions, to absorb the history and culture in one day, along with widely known hospitality of local people and flavor of homemade, national cuisine –Mostar is all of that!
